Goniopora Base Expansion

I have a Goniopora that at night while closed up is about the size of a cut tennis ball and by day the base grows a bit and the tenticles extend ~ 4 inches. Over the weekend I noticed something I had not seen before, the tentacles had retracted but the base had expanded to about the size of a grapefruit...I thought it was going to explode! 8O

Over the next hr or so, the Goniopora "deflated" and tentacles again "re-enflated" back to normal. Later on in the afternoon the Goniopora repeated this process. Any ideas of what might be going on here?

This is just a normal activity. They do this with the tentacles extended also. How long have you had your Goni?

I have had the Goni for only a couple of months, it is quite a nice and interesting piece.
