PC and MH for sure are not equal in wattages. I have put all the PC light that can fit on to my aquarium but the coral that have depth after 18" will still not do well, except mushroom or button maybe fox coral. I think that is all a PC could do. But the coral on top will do fine. and I think you need double of the wattages that is need for MH for PC to work and still doesn't work after the depth of 18". SPS and acros still do well but clam... you'll need to change the PC tube from time to time to keep them healthy.
For my aquarium that is below 60gal i use PC for all of them and they survive but not as nice as the MH for those coral that need intense light.
correct me if i'm wrong please cos i'm still learning.

err.. one more quastion, I have this 200gal reef that is about 3-4 months old everything are doing fine but then in this week suddenly my soft finger and xenia are starting to die off. I have already remove the finger. other coral that is inside are still doing fine. there is some acros, hammer, frog, fox SPS, few clams, fungia, sea fan, bla bla bla bla. I'm really worry about my xenia cos it's hard to get over here. might it be cause by the low magnesium level? it's only at 1080ppm.

And actually the intensity is inversely related to the square of the distance, (imagine a hollow sphere-shell of which all the light must add up to the wattage of your bulb!)

Energy [or Intensity] =proportional-to= distance^2

I think you mean

Energy = n/(d^2) which is what I meant when I stated that "The intensity of light drops exponentially the farther you are from the source."
