For those of you, that are like me, who does not like calcium reactors, then I found the calcium product for you.

My local saltwater store sells calcium, pH up, pH stable and alkalinity booster at really good prices.

For example:

pH up: I only use 2 scoops (for a 180 gallon tank) verses 10 to 18 scoops from the other brands, and this product only raises the pH and does not effect the alkalinity.

There are times that my alkalinty is at my desired level and the pH needed to be adjusted. Here I'm not adding anything that I do not need.

Check out his web site and read the directions for these products.

Hrmmm...6 of your 7 total posts have been promoting this one store (www.gettankedaquariums.com) and the posts are sounding borderline commerical. I'm not going to close this thead at this time but I'm watching now. Do it again in any future thread and the thread will be closed.

what do you have against Ca reactors? You'd rather add "scoops" of chemicals to your tank?

There's a question of balance here. If your alk is at a desired level, than you should not have to worry about your pH.

Hello Robf & reefland,

This subject is all on how you look at it.

I know other hobbyist, that's been into this hobby for over 15 years or more each, who once upon a time used calcium reactors.
Calcium reactors are ok. Their is a good risk of wiping out your entire tank
with calcium reactors. They are like a ticking time bomb, but that's my opinion.

I've tried many different brands of calcium and in my opinion they all effect your pH.

The product that I use is calicium chloride in powder form.

-Yea this is alot safer than a calcium reactor, kalk or 2 parts. Just a scoop here and a scoop there  .

hi.
Electricity is ok, but it can wip out your entire tank too!

Water pump, ballasts are like ticking time bombs too.

pH, calcium and alkanility are related in a NSW environment.

CaCl usually is in the powder form, unless you are not careful with sealing out the moisture, or trying to grow a huge crystal (not easy).

Use of CaCl will disrupt the pH of water unless you dose NaOH. However dosing both will disrupt the ionic balance of NSW, unless you do frequent water change.

Based on your statement "It only raises pH and doesn't affect your alkalinity" I can tell right off that you don't understand the seawater chemistry. You cannot affect pH without also affecting alk. I would humbly suggest that you read through Randy Holmes-Farley's articles in Advanced Aquarist to get a better understanding.

As for the "perception" that this is a commercial post - just look at the title: "Better Products at Cheaper Prices." It sounds like an Earl Shybe late night television commercial :)

OK I'm going to be a bit more blunt than the rest of 'em. If your trying to push stuff for your commercial venture, then get the sheeyte out of here. Thank you for your support. (BTW, if you really want to do this, I recommend talking to the mods about becoming a sponsor of reefs.org).

If you are attempting to tell me that adding amounts of calcium chloride as a long term calcium supplement, in addition to adding sodium carbonate and sodium borate (all 'professional grade' as I have read on the site) keep a tank balanced and stable, then I'm not buying it.

I'm intrigued on your opinion that a reactor is a ticking time bomb... could you help me out and explain your reasoning? To me, it would seem that your method guarentees an ionic imbalance.

Please clarify. Thanks!

R.

In order to prevent scaring away newbies from CA reactors, please post your explanation of this danger.

I see no reason to call them ticking time bombs.
