First of all I,m sorry for my bad English , but enyhow I hope you can understand me . I ,m posting a mesage on this forum for the first time on this forum after reading almost all topics on the subject that I have problem on it. I like to say to all of ou that I,m from Macedonia were are no one have reef tank, exept a few fish only tanks , which are very bad equiped and maintanced. A few months ago I saw a sea tank with a few damsels and Amphirions and in the moment I said to my self that I must have one no mater what. Very soon after that I broke my fresh water tank sold all equipment that I have and starting to build sea water 60 galons tank. In that time only help I had is my two ordered books : Eric Boreman-- Corals and Micheal Scott-- Reefs Fishes. I reed them very quick and at that moment I understand that my tank is not even close to what it realy should be. A lot of help then I recived from good people from a small Croatian forum http://www.orbicon.com/hraquatica/forum/, especialy from the man, with nick bluereef(great thanks for him, if he reed this, he also reccomended me this forum).

Now I,m starting to build a new 95 galons "reef" tank, but at start have problems with creating overflow. I plan to construct it form glas with the shape "L" and than glue it in the corner were I ,m gona drill the glass at the botom back corner. Dilema is, is this right or not. And what if I drill one smaler hole for returning, would be the glass strong enough to keep the presure. If some one can give me any kind of advice I will be very hapy.

Regards to All

welcome.

drilling glass is not a good idea. a siphon overflow is a better plan.

glass is difficult to drill. if you had an acrylic tank drilling would be an option.

Hi. Do you have the ability to drill glass?
Then drill it, not too close to the corner .This is much better than siphon box or tube.
Don`t drill a second hole. This will weaken the base ,I have seen many tanks with cracks going across from one hole to the other.Water return can be brought up and plumbed into the tank.Don`t forget to put a hole in the return line near the surface to break the syphon incase power cuts out.
Good luck.

Hello,

How is your Skimmer working?

If you have the ability I would drill the tank. Unless it is tempered glass it should drill ok.

i do agree with these guys. if you have the means, by all means do it. i assumed you did not. i should have taken the time to explain myself.

Strength of the tank walls depends directly on the thickness of the glass and workmanship of the silicone job. How thick are the glass you are building the tank up with?

Glass which I plan to use for my reef is 10mm thick , upps this is metric value, 1/4". I paln to drill two holes but two of them I plan to be for overflow not for return. Also I think to use ECOSYSTEM MiracleMUD filter system. Aquarium will be 48x24x20 lxhxw.

For a 95G, I'd suggest you use at least 3/8" or better, 1/2" glass panels. There was a thread of a guy's tank blow up in UK, possibly because his glass is too thin. I believe his glass is also 10mm.

Also, always drill first, then glue together.

Good Luck

Just FYI, 10mm is just over 3/8", not 1/4".

You may want to read this thread before deciding on the Miracle Mud. Pay particular attention to MattM's posts.

Actualy 10mm=0,39", is this thiknes good for driling, or maybe I can use acrilic for botom side, for easier driling?
