I found it!! It's called NY Aquaria it's in mamaroneck. It's a full line pet shop with half the place full of fish. I was there when they were cleaning the reef system. it looks like they are going through the new tank syndrome... Hair algae etc. They didn't have much, only about half the tanks are full of corals. I did find a nice piece of blue and orange ricordia. Dave, one of the owners showed me the quarentine system they are building for the fish. He sounds like he knows what he is doing and the design of the filtration system was impressive. I will defineatly recommend this place. It looks like they need a little more time to finish it.

Curious...how does one recommend a LFS with the reef system half empty and experiencing new tank syndrome? IMO new tanks should NOT be housing coral at all. New tank syndrome with tanks full of coral indicates to me that the owners might not know as much as they've led you to believe.

Of course I could be wrong. :)

I'm not sure if you are suppose to post Phone #'s or addresses on this board. They are in the phone book that's where I found them. They may not be ready for filling the system with corals. But anyone who builds a sytem to quarentine the fish before they sell them, is heading in the right direction. The prices seemed reasonable for the area they are in. I paid 60.00 for a piece of orange and blue ricordia about 5'' x 5'' with 7 polps on it. I haven't seen those colors for a while in any LFS.

Good luck
Mike.

FWIW, I went back to NY Aquaria today. If you have any doubt about their knowledge go see the show tank. I meet the other owner today He used to own TOTAL MARINE.. I forgot his name. If any of you remember that place it won't be long before this place really sets it off. The tanks are all clean and doing fine. I second my recommendation go see the show tank if anything...

You mean Sal? I used to work at Total Marine when I was in high school. Jeez I've got to go over and see the place if Sal started a new store.

Hey Jim and Timbo,

I meet the other owner today. He used to own TOTAL MARINE..

Mike, why play such a game?

FYI, Mike Labuty used to work at the old Total Marine store for Sal (the owner).

the first Total Marine was a fabulous little store, a little like Wet & Wild in Peekskill, that's where i bought my first reef fish, a Strigosus, back in '96 when i was getting into the hobby. 100 times worth the time it used to take me to get there by train from Manhattan.

the second Total Marine, 622A Main Street - New Rochelle - AQUARIA, INC was a real "failure", too large of a store... wrong location, wrong store... did not last long!

Mike showed up once on Reefs about 3/4 years ago regarding a LR business for which he was "posting"..... that was months after the second store closed.

Hope for you this new store is a great place!

I think the NY store will be very good. I met Sal at the Pet Industry show in Atlantic City. I have known Dave who is the infamous "Salty Dave". He definitely knows what he is doing as he formerly worked for Sea Dwelling Creatures which is arguably the best SPS coral wholesaler in the business.

Sal and Dave are both nice guys and I hope the store does great.

Went to this place today, it looks like its gonna turn into a really nice store. They've got all the equipment in place and are stocking the tanks, its clean, and the show tank is very cool, its got a lot of coral in there with color variations I've only read about before. I bought a few things from them today and I'm very happy with them and the price I paid. If you're in the NY area check them out. Dave and Sal know what they're doin, this isn't some little store that is opening. If they keep getting better, they'll be the LFS I visit the most.

Hi all, I went to check out the store today and spent some time looking at all of the tanks and talking with Dave. All I can say is that I'm impressed!
Dave knows exactly what he is doing and everything looked good. I will definitely use them as a primary source now.
BTW I'm new here though not new to reefkeeping. I surfed over from Reef Central. It was time for a little less busy environment to post to.

Hi, a friend and me visited this store this past Saturday.

I've been to Total Marine at both locations. The first store
was definitely better. The new store promises to be be one
of the best in the NY area. I'm from MA, but travel to stores
in CT/NY from time to time looking for nice corals.

Sal always had a knack for getting rare and extremely colorful
livestock. Especially SPS. Apparently, the person who used to
send him those rare and unusual corals, is now his partner !
Dave used to work for Sea Dwelling creatures. Based on some
of the animals in their show tank, it's a good bet that that store
will be stocking livestock that is not seen too often in the hobby.

In one of their tanks, they've got a large bright blue Squamosa
show clam. It must be a foot in length. Really beautiful.

I ended up purchasing two small acro colonies. One was a nice
pink/red tabling acro, and a bright purple staghorn.

The hair algae is gone from the display tanks, and the store looks like
it's going to be really nice once they get going.

Oh...they have acros in now. I may have to make another trip over there. Last I was there, they had just put the clam in and were setting up the tanks.

I just went there this week. I like what I saw and hope the word gets out about this place. It's hard to find a good fish store in N.Y. The owners were very helpful and prices were reasonable. The place is shaping up nice now. I now know I have a new fish store to go too and its not to far. Good luck guys...
