I was am getting a new tank and want to paint the back of the tank: blue, black, clear? I don't know. My overflow is black so I am trying to decide on black or blue. I just wondered what other people like.

I saw the results and I said to myself, "Blue?"

I have seen some blue w/black overflows, and they don't look bad at all. Mine is only black because I guess i'm a weirdo.

Wow...I never would have thought anybody would post this. I am having a starfire Lee Mar made for me right now and have decided on a dark (almost midnight) blue color for the rear. I too will have a black prefilter but dont think it will stand out. I was even considering a slightly metallic midnight blue to spice it up a little.

matte black-makes the tank look deeper, and everything REALLY stands out-it's always been my favorite-both for salt and fresh water tanks.

My tank came with smoked black glass. I would have painted it blue if it didn't already come tinted. Over the years it has become 100% coralline covered so it really doesn't matter much.

I personally don't like the bright blues so many people use. I like the deeper dark blues.

Hmm, was painting a room with Ralph Lauren's river rock, and a deep dark blue one at that (bottom 1/3rd of the wall, too damn expensive to do the entire walls 8O, then woolie rollered the top 2/3rd's with a tan/white mix, turned out well, shocking many that thought I was crazy to do it. {of course, we all know I am crazy anyway}). Have left-over, about 2/3rds a gallon. Probably try that one, think the rock look, with dark blue, might be cool.

"Blue"?

I had blue tanks as well as black. I liked Black as colors of the corals really stand out as A=B put it. If I got the chance next time, maybe I will try some exotic metallic purple for a change.

I painted mine deep dark blue. I figure that's what color the ocean water looks a few miles off-shore! Just seems natural.

Just paint it pink so it will look like coralline algae.

I used black. And from my exp. the black actualy made it look like the light was reflecting of the black to make it even brighter in my tank.
could be just my imagination too though.

I myself just painted my tank... I used black, it makes everything standout. When coraline grows on the back it also looks realy neat. If I did it over again I would mix a little metalic purple with the black keeping it dark but it would give the effect of the sky over the ocean at night. 8)

hey dizzy-

nice pic! 8)

btw-couldn't help but notice the dam in the bottom right corner-how does it get along in your tank, and what else do you have in there, fishwise?

vitz that 220 has a pair of fairly well behaved starki damsels (fight with each other a little), flame angel, female bellus angel, swallowtail angel (G. melanospilus), imperator angel, purple tang, chevron tang, purplensus psuedo, and a mandarin. I'll try and post a good photo of starki damsels one day. They are expensive for damsels and from Australia. They look like a replendens angel. Starki is my favorite damsel. It is a bit of an odd mix in the tank, but they all get on well with each other. The little bellus female is cool as the other side of the pillow.
