Hey everybody. A number of months ago I bought a Super Reef Devil (SRD) skimmer and just recently set it up, since I needed a larger sump to accomodate it. Over the past two weeks, I've tried everything under the sun to tune it, but can never produce enough dry foam to make it in the collection cup. After browsing online a bit I've heard a lot of reefers have been modifying their SRD with a Beckett pond nozzle and have had a good amount of success producing a good amount of skimmate.
What I want to know is, has anyone out there with an SRD (or RD3) tried this and if so, did it make a significant difference in the skimmer's efficiency? Also, what model # is the Beckett nozzle used? Were all the bioballs taken out of the skimmer after the mod or were any left in (how many)?
If you have an SRD or RD3, without any mods, I'd still appreciate any input on how they tuned their skimmer. I'd like to know all of the specifics, like how many bioballs are in the skimmer? Is the skimmer raised? What's the water level in the sump? Yes, I've already contacted AE Tech's customer service and none of their suggestions seemed to help. The skimmer has been used for close to 3 weeks now, so it should have easily passed it's break-in period.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks! -BT
