I got my liverock from Gulfview little over 2 weeks ago,but I still haven't got an ammonia spike yet.I know the rock went from the ocean to my tank in less than 18 hrs.I have all kinds of caularpa and other plant like algae growing and also have these little button like coral skeletons that are starting to get these transparent arms with white dots on the ends are starting to grow. The ammonia never went over .5 mg/l does this mean my tank is cycled.algae is starting to grow on the gravel and the glass and some other orange like corals are coming out too.Their skeleton looks like a dome and wasp nest combined.

Any Ideas?

You might not see a cycle. Sometimes this happens when using LR. I would still let the tank run for a few months before adding any critters

i set up my last tank with gulf view rock and hardly noticed a cycle either. IMO you should be ok to begin adding stuff. amazing how much better the rock is when it's not sent slow boat from figi huh.

I think those are some type of tunicate. I saw a bunch of those pop up on my gulfview, but they have been shortlived for me.

I'd give your rock a few more weeks, enjoy staring at the cool critters, before you start covering them with corals. My gulfview hasn't given me any problems. I got mine in late March, cured in a couple of weeks. I moved my established setup into the new tank with gulfview rock in late April. I haven't done too many water tests since the move, I did get a low nitrate reading. I'm getting some hair algae and cyano growth which is to be expected, but the corals look fine.

Is the ammonia down to zero yet? I wouldn't add anything until the ammonia is zero!

Then add slowly. Remember, nothing good happens quickly in a reef tank. Only bad thing happen fast.

Is this your first tank?

Good luck!
