Hmmmm. I want to add a calcium reactor to my 300 gallon system but I head it can be expensive. I don't know anything about calcium reactors but heard I need more than just a reactor to use it. Can someone estimate how much installing a calcium reactor on my system will cost me? Thanx.

We have developed a better model with super chilled co2,ozone and hybred, but you can start here for very good cost and get good results.

We have been working with rH=mV/29 + (2xpH) + 6,67 and the atom/ions related: Zn + Cu2+-- Zn2 + Cu, and have great results.
I am sure you will find this to be helpfull after setting up your study on the reactor you decide to get.
Remember at ph 8.3 the relation ammonium is about 1:9 and the ballance is shown: NH4+ +H2o--NH3 + H3o+

I hope this helps in your equashions.

We do resurch in three countries and have seen:

GBR: rH 0-9 = heavy reductions
Figi: 10-17= slight reductionss
Maldives: rH8- 25= neutral
RedSea: rH 26- 34= slightly oxidations
Florida: rH35- 42= heavy oxidations

With the use you should do some resurch on this Value:
Ex -iodine SD=+/-20mg/l,calcium+/-5mg/l or strontium SD = +/-5%
during operations of time of respective values.
Using the Reactor with out chilled uv-co2-ozone, the (No3- No2 +No3- No2- + NH4+ -- NO2-, will be affected, resulting in a improper break of H2o.

Keep your bubble counter in the 350-400 range for 1000 mg/l.

Just giving you the notes you should look over as you might decide to use a reactor.

Good luck.

Why would anyone put copper in their invert tank?

I swear I saw Cu in his equashion

Dr. Reef,
Now you are getting me worried that Saltcritter may be right  . I swear that copper sulphate is one of the ingredients in Spectrum pellets! I suppose those good people who make Spectrum knew about the equashion long before we did.

Here's the formula C5H used:
Zn + Cu2+-- Zn2 + Cu, and have great results.

ok, here's the periodic table on Zn:
Zn - Zinc
Usually a grey colored transition metal, zinc was known in ancient Asia and early Europe. It can be easilly alloyed with copper and other metals and so has found wide metalurgical use. Lately zinc gluconate has become popular as a cold remedy. Our students explore the chemical activity and electrochemical properties of zinc.

and on Cu:
Cu - Copper
As the transition metal copper can be found pure in nature, it was known to the ancients. Originally popular for its high malleability, the extremely high electrical conductivity of copper (second only to silver) makes it the conductor of choice for most wires. Our students observe the dehydration of copper sulfate pentahydrate, determine the composition and electrochemistry of copper salts, and may assay copper ore. The chemistry and society class takes a field trip to a copper mine.

the other equation C5H used:
NH4+ +H2o--NH3 + H3o+

H3 is an isotope, here's the description:
Radioactive decay of: H-3
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3H
12.33 yr
3.0160492
B-
-->
3He
0.000137%

So C5H uses radioactive hydrogen in his Ca reactor??

-Taz, I think I read somewhere that radioactive hydrogen will suppress the appetite of clams and keep them from eating tangs :(  .

Actually, the equation H3o was supposed to be H3O, meaning water with an extra hydrogen ion added to it.

Not that this sheds any light on the random "equashions" offered up.

hi.
RDO has had weirdos that talk nonsense all the time, but lately, there seems to be more than normal. Obviously, it is very easy to do it. See below:

C5H4O3N4 does research for past 16 years. He used to be a post doc in my lab, but quited after some personal problem with the PI. I worked iwth him on the study of effect of rH with the use of CuPtW catalyst in reef environment and it's anticynobacterial property for treatment of outbreak under high nitrate/nitrate/amonium condition. The ligand for the catalyst is, surprise!, an organic compound C5H4O3N4. The equashion "rH=mV/29 + (2xpH) + 6,67" is deducted from the Faraday formula with substitution of the Hemitonian. It is called the Ing's equation among the group's members because I were the one who deducted it with a slight hint from him. It is called the Ing-C5H4O3N4 equation in past 14 years...

Now back to the issue. Compare to the price of your tank, the reactor is a moderately priced accessory. For a complete reactor "system," you need a carbon dioxide tank (similar to a fire extinguisher), a pressure regulator to bring the pressure down to manageable level, a needle valve to control the amount of CO2 to added to the reactor, and a solenoid if you want to work with a pH monitor. IME, for a moderately sized system like a 300 gal tank, it is usually working 24/7 so that you can do without the solenoid, but YMMV.

If you DIY, you can get it to work for about $200-400. If you buy ready-maded reactor and accessory, you will be looking at $400 to 1200 depends on spec.

Where are Randy Holmes-Farley and Craig Bingman when you need them?....

I can't speak for Craig, but I'm laughing along with the rest of you. I hope no one actually believes any of it is real.

IcantTHINKofONE:

What system are you using now for calcium and alkalinity supplements? Depending on what it is, and what's in the tank, a reactor may end up being less expensive in the long run. Limewater is another good choice for a large tank, and can be as inexpensive as any scheme.

HEY HEY HEY..... H3O as in HEAVY WATER !!! Haha since when did Reefs.org turn into the nuclear_labs_forum.org . Maybe somebody thought they were on the Iraq war effort site....

JUST A JOKE NO NEED TO REPLY :)

With his uncooperative effort on grammar structure in his post, that thought has crossed my mind. I bet he also owned a couple thousand oil rigs.......

(Sorry, off topic .........)

...H3O as in HEAVY WATER ...
(just want to make sure... D2O is heavy water, H3O+ is related to acid and base. In an ocean of heavy water, not many living thing can live (due to isotope effect, not radiation), and it does not get bluer as you dive deeper (due to transitional vibration mode of heavy water)... it is ~perfectly clear)
