I just picked up a dwarf lion 2 days ago. The lion has been in an established tank for a year and feeds easily on ghost shrimp.
I have fed him today and he ate 6 quickly and seems very active.
The problem I notoced is that the right eye looks a little cloudy white color.
The other eye is fine and clear.

I am assuming this is an irratation since it's only one eye but wants to gather oppinions.

My LFS is closed today and the other LFS's in the area are just plain dumb when it comes to the hopes of an educated response.

All other fish in my tank are fine and I am going to soak flake in garlic as a preventative to parasites.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to remove the eye with a toothpick, or a small pocketknife. 8O

I aplologize, I know I have a sick sense of humor!

I am ashamed of myself-

Seriously, this usually is a result of a slight injury, and clears up on its own most of the time for me. I have seen this with both fresh and saltwater fish after being bagged.

I was thinking about getting some "clear eyes"
Ben Stein says the stuff works!

LOL

I thought it was from transporting and just irritated but want a better opinion than the LFS here.

Thanks

Might be Glaucoma.... Try feeding him some Canibus....

Everybody is being a smart ars today huh? :)

I'm with Reef Fever if it's minor and the fish seems to be doing well, leave him be for now unless is gets worse... Should clear up in a few...

Hi:
you make an interesting statment, the dwarf has been established for more than 1 yr and its only eating ghost shrimp. WOW...this lion should be eating dead prepared marine foods, not freshwater ghost shrimp. While i believe ghost shrimp are the better of the FW feeders its not a sw food item.
So try an ween this fish over.
Anyway cloudy eyes are usually stressed related or traumatic. I would ensure your water paramters are in check, and do a few water exhanges to make sure this is so, if the eye doesn't resolve in 3 or 4 days i would treat the lion in a quarentine tank w/ Sw maracyin II or nitrofuran or spectrgram (kanamycin).
But try the water quality first.

Thanks for the relies,

The guy I got the lion from says he has tried alot of different marine foods but the lion will only pay attention and go after live food.
I feed my other fish with different frozens all the time and its funny to watch the lion when I feed the tank. when I put in mysis for example, he sets there in a cloud of falling food and "snorts" the mysis away from his face when it lands right on his nose!

I would like some suggestions on trying to weem him but for now, the ghost shrimp work fine. I just gut load the shrimp prior to feeding and he and I are happy.

Does seem odd to me too since FW shrimp isn't a natural dietary food source.

I was about to mention the Gut-loading. That will make a huge difference. As far as water-quality being a concern, if that was the problem then it should show up on both eyes. Since it is just the one eye, I think it was a physical irritation and will probably go away on its own.

Moving and medicating the fish at this point may do more harm than good.

I would, of course, be sure the water params are in check- as anytime you see any sign of stress.
