why do mushrooms detach? I have one that seems like it is only connected by 1/4 of it's foot. I had another detach and float around the tank till I caught it. It looked like it had let go so some of the young mushrooms could take it's place, but this one mushroom shows no sign of reproducing.

I have had shrooms detach because the current was too high where they were located.

On the other hand, I also had a shroom rock that 2 detached from and the others stayed put. I have no idea why those 2 were unhappy where they were when all of the rest of the shrooms on that rock were perfectly happy.

The mushroom is definantly not in too much current. I have only one powerhead on in my tank right now (located near the top, 1200 Maxijet). I have 6 baby fish so I lowered the current for them temporarily, but my corals seem to like the lower currents also.

ReefRian,
Mushrooms do detach. That's one way in which they spread across an area. I've had many do that over time and begin a new colony elsewhere in the tank.

I would be thrown out on the street if I blended mushrooms in my wife's blender. Read the post, even thought about it for .5 seconds. They seem to spread well enough on their own!
