Hi all,

I have an aproaching Hair Algae (real fine green hair like) problem. Its not a problem yet but it will be in a month. How or what can I use to trim this stuff. I have an arrow crab that munches on it. Also I have about 10-13 hurmit carbs that don't really make a dent in it. Has anyone else had this problem and how did they deal with it?

Thanks in advance.

Also look for more info in the post up top called "Just the FAQs"

Good hair algae information in there.

not knowing what size tank you have i am a little hesitant to recomend a tang, but my yellow made real short work of an outbreak of epic preportions and has kept it in check ever since. 90 or bigger is needed or the tang police will hunt you down.

I have a 26 gallon. Thats too bad, the are really pretty.

Anyway I was going to blast my rocsks with my powerhead but I looked at my tank this morning and the patches are getting smaller. I think my arrow crab (Mr Purple Pokie Pants, Don't you just love girlfriends that name you fish) got hungry and trimed up a little, we'll see how that goes, but i'm going to try the powerhead thing anyway because it sounds like a good pratice.

add 1x mythrax (emerald) crab, 1x sally lightfoot crab and 1-2x "alysia crispata" lettuce slugs and then sit back and relax.

Would it be ok to get a small tang. And take him back to shop when he gets bigger? Or would a small tank stunt his normal growth and harm the fish?

I wouldn't get a small tang either. Too small a tank for them. You can also do this....If you are doing a water change, take a bucket and fill it with your tank water. Then just take the rocks out and scub it with a toothbrush. I did this and it works real well. You should find out whats fueling the hair alge also. Solve that problem and you solve the hair problem...
