Thanks to all those that helped with the tips on my move. I just got done moving my 65 gallon tank. The dust has settled now and everything looks like it will be OK. One thing I learned is to plan an extra day, just in case. And you can NEVER have to many containers! I have all the rocks and corals set up in a spare 100 gallon tank and there have been no signs of stress after 6 days. Even the xenia is pumping. I put all the sand in a separate large rubbermaid style container with a heater and powerhead. There is some smell from that container, but not too bad. One large star polyp creation I have would not fit through the holes in the acrylic tank, so I had to set that up in a small glass tank (the old sump). I have to say it went very well and I have this forum to thank. The only loss was a small angel that jumped out on the 2nd day. :(

It really was back breaking work. I moved the rest of the house as well with some friends and a big truck & trailer. Next time I will hire movers so I can concentrate on the tank only.

The custom 120 oceanic tank is taking longer to get than I thought. I will post another update when that one goes together. For now, I have to organize the rest of the house!

Thanks again to this forum. My success would never have come without you.

Glad you had a smooth move. I moved a 40 reef and a 75 sps reef a few months ago with no loss. I took down and set up the tanks the same day, but only had to travel a short distance. It is very hard work, that damn sand is soo heavy. In any case, I have to agree about the containers I now have a nice collection of rubbermaids in my basement. Ill never move again!

I don't envy you at all. In about a week and a half, I'm packing up my reef and moving from Washington to San Diego. I can make the drive in just under 17 hours, so my fingers are crossed!! The Navy is moving everything else. All I have to worry about is my livestock. I'll update you on the other side.

Brown trout,

If you get this before you leave... Maybe think about getting a generator so you can have some pwr in the truck for heaters and pumps. I think if I move again, and it is more than a few hours, I think I will buy one. It would be nice to have in case there was a long lasting power outage as well.

BTW... I should have knocked on wood. I just a had a HUGE algae explosion all over the glass in the last few days... Dang! where is that new tank !?!

Paul,

If you search you can find a bunch of posts about Oceanic tanks lately. Dan Oconnor and I both just ordered a 120 with only one overflow box (normally they come with two). It doesn't cost that much more for that modification, it just takes a while. In my case, about a month or so now. I got my box put in the center of the back of the tank with two 1" holes in the bottom. I also somehow went crazy and ordered mine with special starphire glass that is supposed to be top of the line. That cost a whole heck of a lot more!

It is supposed to arrive at my door any day now!
