Love it...I dose with it and strot. and get good coraline growth...the only down fall is the price of that little itty bitty bottle! Marine Depot was running a special on it but it might be over....

Used to use it. Haven't for quite a while. Everything is as good or better than it's ever been.

As Chucker said, why do you think you might need it?

FYI, after the controversial analysis that showed there is very little in Combi-San, Julian Sprung has come out with a new supplement product that uses his own formula (Combi-San was formulated by Peter Wilkins and distrubuted by Sprung).

Interestingly, it attempts to address the "Why do you think you need it" queston. Here is a quote from the product literature:

Independent studies show that some trace elements accumulate in home aquariums to potentially toxic levels. SeaElements avoids contributing to this problem by including only those elements that are typically depleted from aquarium water - in the proper concentrations and ratios. Other supplements promote a long list of elements in an attempt to offer something "more." We offer the only formula that contains just what your aquarium needs.

I don't have more details at this time (our distributor doesn't have it in stock yet), but it bears further examination.

Man, I really hope that isn't required.

BTW, when I saw Julian at the Spring Pet Industry Trade Show, I also saw this new product and asked him: "So, is this the direct response to the Combi-San fiasco?" He just smiled.

If the definition of diplomacy is keeping quiet when anything you say might get you into trouble, then Julian is the most diplomatic person I've ever met. :D

-Now this is a trick. I noticed on the water analysis study done by Dr Ron that every tank had different levels of all the elements tested for. Does this product come with a testing lab?

Yeah, that line is a definitely a bit of "marketing".

I think, however, there are two ways you can read it:

1) "Contains exactly what your aquarium is lacking"

If that's the intended meaning, then I agree that it's total B.S.

2) "Does not contain stuff that we know isn't normally depleated"

Based on the context of the rest of the paragraph, I can accept that this is really what they meant and I think it is a more reasonable claim. Very badly worded though.

We will know more when I get a bottle in the store and check the ingredients.

So just what is it that my tank needs! If Julian can tell that without some major water testing of my tank, he's in the wrong business! I use the following as my guide to adding anything to my tank except kalk. I have a 180g tank, lightly stocked with coral and fish, zero crowding of corals. Every 3 months I get over $100 worth of store credit at the LFS taking in frags, sometimes as high as $200. The only thing I've ever dosed is kalkwasser and do a 25 gallon water change each month. The tank has been up for over 2 years and coralline growth is ridiculous, corals calcify at a very nice rate, and soft corals love it. An example of calcification rates. 18 months ago I added a bud from a frogspawn, about 1/2" in diameter. In 18 months it has grown to over 30 heads with the skeleton about 6" in diameter. My Trumpet corals grow from around 20 heads to around 60 heads in 8 months, at which point I cut them in half and let it start over. Save your money!!!!!
