I just bought a juvinile tank raised percula clown and a purple tip anenome. My question is will the clown take to the anenome? How long? Also can I mate the clown? How can I tell the sex of the fish? He is the only fish right now. Thank You.
There is a chance that he can take the BTA as a host.
For what I hear...its like 50-50.
For as the Clown you have. yes you can mate them.
Get one a little bigger than the one you have. They may nit pick at each other for a while. But thats part of the dating game. The more dominate one will become the female.
If you get a bigger on like I suggested. The bigger one will probably become the female.
When you say 'pink tip' anemone, do you mean a condylactus? If so, then you're out of luck, they aren't host anemones.
As for creating a mated pair...
1 Get a clear plastic jar (like a big miracle whip jar from sam's club)
2 Drill several holes in the jar
3 For the least-stress route, purchase a clown at least twice the size of your current clown
4 Acclimate said clown to your tank
5 Put her in the jar with holes, sink it in the tank (lid on)
6 Leave her in there for a couple days (until they decide not to attack each other)
For the best information on raising and breeding clowns, you will want to buy Joyce Wilkerson's book "Clownfishes". It will tell you all you need to know. It is truly a must have if you are going to get into this and will save you from making costly mistakes (both for you and the fish). Hope this helps.
Thanks guys. It's weird though, I bought the BTA and there waqs a true perc living in it. I would have bought the fish to but it was like 50 bucks and didn't seem worth it to me. Every morning before I turn on the lights the clown is playing in the purple tip, but once those lights go on it leaves and won't return at least not when I'm around. :? Thanks again a may try these suggestions soon. I'll keep ya informed.
