I'm going to be in New York and Connecticut this weekend and was wondering if there are some great LFS's or public aquariums that are must sees?
LMK and thanks,
Mark

New world aquarium, 38th st, and first or second is about he best in Manhattan. But lately, i have not been impressed. Nothing special about the livestock, that is. It's an okay store for in the city.

There is always NY (public) aquarium out at coney island.

Once in NY check out Rockafeller Center (love and good cheer) Then get to work .
Brooklyn Aquarium.
Check out these stores in Queens. Northern Pets, Fish town USA. both are on Northern Blvd. If you have the time Country Critters on Long Island.(a must)
On your way North to Conn. make sure you stop by House of fins. Once in Conn check out the Mystic Aquarium. Enjoy.

Hey Bingo,

New World is between 2nd and 3rd Ave. right off 38th Street at the South East corner of 38th. Here's the website http//www.newworldaquarium.net/ . It really is a must see. Great Store but high prices.

Not much to see in NYC IMO.

Best stores in area are:
Country Critters 152 Rt 112 Patchogue NY 11772 Phone: (631) 758-6891 This store is on Long Island- a good 45 minute ride from the city line.

Reef and Fin 180 Bedford St Stamford CT 06901 Phone: (203) 325-3562 This store is in CT about 1/2 hr from the city. It's easy to get to just off I-95.

I've heard good things about NY Aquaria in Mamaroneck (it's on the way to CT) but I haven't had a chance to get there yet.

Best public aquarium is Atlantis Marine World In Riverhead, Long Island. It's a smallish facility but they have an awesome 20,000 gallon reef tank. It's probably a 1 1/2 hr ride from Manhattan.

Fishtown USA is a good store on Northern Blvd. and Francis Lewis Blvd. in Queens. The NY Aquarium in Brooklyn has upgraded their reefs over the last year. Manhattan is pretty scarce when it comes to LFS. The overhead is too high.

There´s not much in Manhattan, the only LFS worth a visit is New world aquarium in 38th st , and even that is nothing special.
I would recomend a visit to the NY Aquarium in Coney Island.
By far, the best LFS in the area is Country critters, but it is a long ride from Central New York.

House of Fins in Greenwich has the most impressive selection of livestock that I've ever seen at an LFS. It's an easy off/on from I-95, exit 3.
