The various ants, insects and bugs are getting too numerous in my office. There are demands for a fumigator 8O But there are two reef tanks, and I'm very concerned. I'm assuming the fumes would be a VERY BAD THING for the tanks. One company claims to use some kind of gel in lieu of spraying ???? Any suggestions? Any chemicals/pesticides that might be OK with a reef tank?

I have my house fumigated once a month, but never in that specific room... even though the fumigator insists he treats rooms with aquariums in it, I refuse to do that room...

secondly, my brother-in-law has what used to be a reef thank and is now nothing but a aptasia tank with 2 clowns, a star, and the ususal crabs and snails.... thats besides the point though, he recently had his house tented and nothing happened to his tank or critters... He used 2 heavy comforters to cover the tank.... There was a bit of a temp problem but that was it... might want to consider that...

have you considered using 'no pest strip' type stuff? i use 'em in my apartment during the summer, they seem to do a great job, and don't bother my tank or my dog(you can lay 'em flat behind furniture for the crawlies).if you have to go with spray stuff, 'tenting' the tank may work, don't forget to turn off air pumps, skimmers. etc during the process, and until the room is aired out thoroughly!how long will the fuming take?

don't let them spray in the same room. use the gel in that room. if they're flying use a zapper too. some ant traps can work. don't get anything airborne that can drift in otherwise

good luck on it.

is there a window nearby? For a tent to really work I think you need to create positive air pressure from some kind of fresh air source with a fan or something...
