I've mixed in the past, but in the future I think I'm going to go duplicate a certain region.

Mixed. I have had FW aquariums for the past 30 years. I just started my first reef back in March. Everything is going very well so far (knock on wood). Being new to reef aquariums, I only buy critters advertised as 'low maintenance', 'hardy', or 'good for the beginner'. Right now it does not matter where it came from as long as it's not hard to keep alive! When I am more experienced, I think trying to duplicate a specific region would be very interesting. :)

I mix as a holdover from when I was new and did not know what I was doing. If I were to start a new tank I would not. Live and learn...

Mixer, because for my first reef it was hard enough to get a good mix without considering region! Like others above would like to do a specific region or biotope with a future setup.

Anybody know a good book or internet source on biotopes that goes into enough detail that you can use as a guide to plan your reef (aquascaping and stocking)?

I read Borneman's aquarium corals which has some info, but not detailed enough on that particular topic.

I am guessing that most people mix, cause I have been trying to find things specific to hawaii and pacific ocean and noone seems to know where to find that info nor can i locate much on the internet. I think I also posted something on here that noone answered.
