I just walked in the door, (2:30 am) and found my 100 gal reef tank to be leaking!!! Luckily, it is a small leak, so towels and refills may keep me for the next day or so, but I need to get rid of everything fast!
I have over 200 lbs of live rock... most of it very nice, practically solid deep purple, with a little bit of coral growth, small clams, a neat filter feeder, and TONS of fanworms.
Basically my tank is as perfect as I'd ever expect one to get... I hardly feed it, and never do water changes, and everything has been doing great for a long time. Sections of the tank are literally covered in fanworms, and clams, corals, and other filter feeders have been alive since they came in on my last live rock addition, last October, with minimal maintenace. My live sand bed (4" deep, 150+lbs) is full of neat critters, and right now, with all the lights off there are pods all over the place.
But now it is leaking, and I need to unload all of it. I would just get another tank, but I am graduating college this December, so starting over, in any way at all, does not seem intelligent at the moment, as I would simply tear it down in a couple of months to move. Basically, I have so many critters that I don't want to kill them all, and moving them twice would be much worse than once. Anyway, here's what I've got:

200+ pounds of dark purple live rock (plus some not as decorative stuff (still live) in my sump, as well as some in two ten gallon tanks.)

200+ pounds of very live sand (including the two smaller tanks)

Tons of fanworms... many attached to glass and rocks, but also COVERING at least half of the sand surface in the tank (not attached to anything but each other)

Yellow Tang - Eats algae and seaweed, but also flakes and even squid bits (really!)

Kole Tang - Great algae eater, keeps the tank clear of algae

Maroon Clown - Very friendly with all of the fish, will eat anything, and even nibble on your finger (but won't attack when your arm is in the tank)

2 Bicolor Blennies - neat, friendly... well, they're blennies!

~40 Nessarius snails - no telling how many there really are, as they love to burrow in the sand, but they're great to watch when I put squid in the tank

2 Turbo Snails

5-10 Margarita Snails

1 Blue Leg Hermit

All of these critters are very healthy, as they have all been in there at least 11 months, and nobody has been dying.

So, I've got a tank in normal parameters, with no diseases or pests, and lots of great rock, sand, fish and critters, that need to go now! I figured I would give anyone here first crack at them, as I will probably end up selling everything this weekend, to the LFS if nowhere else. This whole thing is really heartbreaking for me, and my wife, but maybe some of you can benefit.

We are located in Starkville, Mississippi... An hour south of Tupelo, and just as far west from Tuscaloosa, AL. If anybody was willing to buy all of it for enough money, we might be willing to deliver it as far as New Orleans, Birmingham, or Memphis... All of it, with the water it has been thriving in, delivered in containers you can keep, theoretically being out of an aquarium less than twelve hours total from teardown to setup. There would be little or no cycle at all... there wasn't last time I added rock. So, this is a chance to buy an entire thriving setup.

Anyway, please let me know something ASAP if you're interested in some or all of it... honestly I would rather the fish went to a seperate tank(s) than everything else, so they wouldn't have to be as stressed, but honestly I would do whatever you thought was best if given a reasonable offer.

Hi,

I'm Josh Murrah, and I'm located in Mobile, AL. I have a suitable home for a lot of what you have; I have a 100G saltwater setup, 330W of PC lighting, with a scant 40 lbs. of liverock, and reef-friendly livestock (yellow tang, 4 x green damsels, coral beauty angel and a clownfish). I don't currently have ANY invertebrates except for three fighting conchs. The tank has been up for nine months. I don't have much to offer in the way of money to you, but I can offer a scant $100, payable in PayPal or as a check postdated for a day or two (transfer from PayPal), and some money in a postdated check when I get paid (This next Monday). I realize this is a poor offer, but you've gotta move fast, and there's no time. I can be there this afternoon in a Camry, and we can pack it up with whatever you can give away; I can bring good saltwater with me, as well as containers, for the transport back home. I can be reached by AIM, "ShagManOrg", email @ [email protected], or by my cell phone @ 251-689-7354.

Thanks,

Have you considered putting the contents of your aquarium in a rubbermaid tub, then taking the tank back and getting a refund? You could do it easily with one or two of their big "tuff" tubs. Make sure that you have plenty of circulation and aeration in the tubs.

Think of it as moving your aquarium - it can be done and many have done it. But then again, it sounds like you might be "fed up" with your tank and just want to get rid of it.

In either case, I hope this helps,

James

well, the leak has slowed down... to a few drops per minute. I've got a setup that is catching what little water is leaking out, and everything should be good to go for as long as it takes to sell everything, up to a week or so. I am not really fed up with the tank, just heartbroken at the moment, and I am going to be moving in a few months anyway, so resetting the tank up is not something I am interested in right now. I will start over whenever I graduate college and settle down elsewhere.

Thanks for your feedback. Josh, as a college student I can appreciate not having much money, but as much as all of this great rock and sand is worth, 100 for everything is not really what I am willing to go with right now. I would be happy to sell you some of it if you are interested, as there are a few others interested in different quantities as well.

Lemme know,
Jon

oops.

Thanks for the offer reefNewbie....but, I would guess that judo1 has been gone since he had the problem back in Sept. 2002.

I was just making sure that if anyone searched Mississippi and had a problem or was looking for other reefers in the area... that they would find us.

yep.. nassarius snails are my favorite.
