If you had to choose between replacing an old and ailing red sea skimmer or buying a calcium reactor, what would you do???

I'm looking at the Korallin 1502 reactor or AquaC EV240 with a mag 12.

2 cents welcomed

i assume youre tank is in good shape and you can add calcium manually, i would get a new skimmer or rip the red sea appart and try to fix it.

New Skimmer.
I agree that Red Sea Berlins suck A$$.

That said, DIY reactors are relativly easy to make from what I hear.
So you probably could do both.

Go for a new skimmer. You can always get a new calcium reactor down the road. They are more of a convienance, where a skimmer is more of a necessity IMHO.

First, what are you keeping? Second, what size aquarium?
How are you maintaining calcium now?

I'd upgrade the skimmer only if you feel it is working poorly.

FWIW, I had a berlin and replaced the rio 2500 with a sen 700 and the thing rocked. I was emptying silty scum 2-3 times per week. I hear good things about modifying the venturi as well. I think Kent makes a mod.

A calcium reactor is a great addition that won't go to waste. Why not mod the skimmer and have the best of both worlds.

my 2 cents...

Go for the skimmer, because the reactor won´t do much with an awful water quality. The organics reduce the ca. concentrations.
Go for the skimmer!!! :D
