I've posted some pics of my Aquascaping in the "Filtration" section on my website (see link below).

It's been a while since I last cycled a tank and I'm getting some weird readings.

I hope that comes out. It's coped from an Excel spreadsheet. I've only done two tests but I'm kind of scared about my Nitrate levels. Not sure how they jumped up so fast. Is that normal? I know Ammonia and Nitrite levels will go up and down, but I didn't think Nitrate would.

I just did a 20g water change today and the last reading (1/25) is after the water change. I also tested the new salt water before I put it in my tank and the readings were Ammonia:.25(same container I stored my DSB in before I moved it over. I think ammonia leached out of the container), Nitrate:0, Nitrate:0, ph:8.2

Normal, or something to worry about?

i wouldent use that container anymore if your adding ammonia whats the point of doing the changes? but as you noticed the ammonia droped and the nitrate went up this is the normal cycle later you will notice the nitrate drop and the nitrite go up. once this has started to drop and gets to a low level it will be safe to add your live stock.

Yeah I noticed the smell and the Ammonia after it was full of water :? . I'm going to buy a new trash can or container to do my water changes.

That's good to hear about the Nitrate. It's been 3 years since my last cycle so I couldn't remember what "normal" was.

I thought the "normal cycle" was peaks in

Ammonia -> Nitrite -> Nitrate

Have I forgotten it or mixed them up ?

That would be awesome if my cycle is nearing the end. I have used about 50# of 3yr old rock from my old 60g reef so that could have cut my cycle time down a little. I'll test tomorrow morning and see what the reading is.

Cycle was over last night and perfect readings for today.

Here are the readingsn of the cycle. The tank has been up for about a month now. I think it was so short and mild because I used about 50# of old rock from my 60g tank.

Last night I moved a few corals and a blue cromis from my old tank into the new 190 to test everything out and make sure the tank was healthy. This morning everything was super. Corals are out and happy, and cromis doesn't know what to do with all the room!

Today I moved my old clown into the tank. He is also happy, both have already started eating again. The clown is the first marine fish I ever bought. He has been with me for at least 4 years and started out in my 10g salt water experiment (switched from fresh water) tank.

Today I added 20 Cortez Hermits (super active) and 20 snails. The hermits have done an excelent job so far cleaning the brown algae off the sandbed. You can see from the pictures below the difference in white sand and brown sand.
