had a great weekend. spent LOTS of money.LOL. now I need to know what ever can be told about one of my purchases, something called a "lollypop sponge". looks like a coral to me but I was told by the sales person that it was a sponge. and it just looked too cool to let it pass because I was 5 hours from home and couldn't take the time to research first. figured I'd gamble on this one. WAY cool. when he said "sponge" I told him to put the bag in the water , not remove the sponge. so what's the scoop on this one? it has about 5 dark stalks with white "lolly pops on them. I'ts attached to a small rock. light ? dark? current? anyone know about this one?

geese, i thought i was helping  -you provided no picture,-the reason i provided the link that i did was because there was also a picture in that thread, which would at least have given you the ability to confirm to others what you had.

however, if an attempt to help you is gonna get me condescending, unappreciative, reply-screw you!-don't go away mad, just go away!

Whoa!

1st, you are presented with some reading in order to find the requirements you are looking for.

2nd, Buying something without knowing it's requirements is irresponsible at best. Placing it in the tank and "hoping for the best" is why this hobby is threatened with harsh regulations. Do some frigging research.

Why don't you just follow the link that someone else politely provided for you, and at least confirm whether or not that's what you have? That would be a nice piece of information for people to have when giving you advice.

You have a barquitus garbudis. Does best when placed two feet above the tank. and feed a diet of dust bunnies and spider mites.

I would do what the others said follow the link.

come on guys. I DID follow the links and found out it is by most considered a tunicate, that is the proper picture and it said it was a filter feeder. but there was NOTHING I could find in these links answering the questions I asked. "location and current" for this one. I tried doing searches in the arcives and most of them suggested dong a search of the arcives. If I hurt your feelings by asking for answers instead of "do a search" or follow the yellow brick road of links,I'm sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone, just trying to get the answer to my question BEFORE I put him in the wrong place. I know all the rules about research before you buy and I generally do, but when you're hundreds of miles from home on a one way trip and you see something you haven't seen before, well, sometimes you give in to temptation..LOL. but some of you guys are getting a serious attitude problem and if I need to "just go away" as some have said, than maybe this site has outlived it's usefullness to me and I 'll go. I thought they had monitors to keep people friendly on these things, but then again maybe my generation was just raised differently. sorry to have taken up your time and space. won't happen again..

So if I understand you correctly what you have is what Vitz linked you to. you're just looking for more information then what you have found?

i am compelled to reply and speak my mind here:

.

so i offered a link to help you id your purchase, and it helped you, by identifying it-giving you a tool to search(on the internet, also, no?)for it's requirements.you replied with:

I asked for help not a road map. some say tunicate some say others. If you KNOW what it is then please tell where in my tank it will be happiest
.

indicative of not only being completely ungrateful/unnapreciative for the attempt to assist you, but of being arrogant enough to chide and berate the helper because his knowledge was insufficient to your standard?i remind you that you went and bought the darn thing without the required knowledge to keep it-instead of saying 'shame on you'(and in retrospect, that's all you should have gotten)i tried to help.

your hubris is disconcerting, and your rudeness is profound.

look, bubba, you were the rude one here-and if this is your attitude, google is pretty good , for people who wish no help in searches.your generation has nothing to do with it-you simply have no manners.

good luck in your endeavors-just try, from now on, to make your mistakes on your own  ,for i certainly will not help you...

Hmmm, Vitz tried to help. With minimal information ("5 dark stalks with white "lolly pops on them"), Vitz told you that he recognized the description, and what terms to search for. Then, he did the search for you.

Since the thread he referenced was only three months old, and included pictures, you might expect the information referenced there might be the best anyone has to offer.

Of course, you could have said, "Thanks for the link, that's what I have. I didn't see any information about current and placement. Does anyone know anything more about this?"

This particular tunicate is not all that prevalent - hence the lack of answers. But in general, filter feeders need enough current to bring them food and remove waste, but are otherwise very tolerant.

No, someone tried to give you an answer, based on minimal information, and your response wasn't "thank you," but
come on guys. I asked for help not a road map.

So, if "your generation" was raised to be rude, then perhaps you were raised differently than other generations.

Kevin

PS - looks like Vitz posted as I was writing. Well said Vitz!

-Instead of blaiming your rudeness( ) on "your" generation, might I suggest that you look within for the answer.

Well, I think we've all got the picture here, folks. hoss got his info, and suggestions on how to take the advice given. Unless anyone has anything else to directly add to the identification or care of the critter, no more replies are needed.

The above info is good but here is some more. Do a search for Lollipop Coral and you will find a post by Julian Sprung that gives you a lot of info. Here is a photo of mine.
MVC-004S.JPG

This photo was taken about 3 days after it lost all of its heads. Yes they shed all of their heads and grow them back. Mine has done this 3 times in the last 5 weeks. Each time the end result is bigger heads. I have mine in moderate to high current. It will get strings that look like spagetti worms coming out of the holes in the head when it is feeding. Hope this helps and next time don't be so rapid to slam people that are helping you.

Bryan
