I lost my baby blue tang ( ) and am going to get another tang, but think that I might get a achilles or ??? I have 180 gal. I'd love to see your pics of your tangs and what you have to say about them???
p.s. Ernie...did you ever get another ???
Lynn: Here is a picture of a Scopas Tang that I have had for a long time. It is a friendly/gentle fish and I think very attractive. Apparently, I don't know how to insert the image but here is the html.
ICantThinkofOne: I have had Copperbands in FO tanks in the past and I like them, so several months ago I thought I would risk puting him in this tank. The only problem that I have had is with him picking at the tube worms. (He immediately went after one that I was really enjoying and I haven't seen it since) I thought at first that might be a problem but I see that the tube worms are still thriving in areas that the Copperband can't reach in the reef. He doesn't seem to bother the corals.
I would love to have a achilles?? does anyone have one of these? if so what can you tell me about it?? Is my tank big enough? (180)
thanks... beautfil pics!
I've kept both powder blue and achilles and the pb is certainly more aggressive. Both are rather fickle unless completely healthy though. I highly highly suggest making certain you pick your fish carefully... make sure htey are eating/picking and that they have no visible issues at all (ragged fins, hard breathing, ich spots, etc etc). If you get a healthy specimen, it shouldn't be an issue in a 180 (at least not for a few years!).
Hippo, don't have a clue...everything else is 100%. Still bothers me, I'd sure like to know why?
Wade, why would my tank only be good for a few years?? achilles only grow to 9" or so.
Would still like to know their swimming traits?? do they cruise and dart like most tangs or swim back and forth like triggers??
thanks
Depends on how large the fish is when you get it more than anything else. It would be fine in a 180g tank by itself for its lifetime, but packing it in with a host of other fish or loading up with rock and coral get to b an issue. That said, I have never seen captive fish get nearly as large as wild fish and haven't ever seen issues. My achilles would only cruise back and forth thru the tank in the evenings, commonly flashing its reflection and going thru its array of colors against the glass.
I lost the fish when a cuke hit a powerhead I still think it was my best fish though.
