do hardware stores sell float valves? or does anyone know where to get one around town?

I need one ASAP I dont have time to order one becuase I will be leaving for 5 weeks... :(

About the only place you're likely to find one is a rural hardware store (ones that caters to farms) or a feed store.

They are sometimes used to set up continuously topped-off watering troughs for livestock.

try grainger.com or mcmaster-carr (i don't know mcmaster's site tho). i got a nylon float from grainger around $14. there's a heavy-duty version too.

Under RO/DI plumbing parts, the FVKENT. You could try overnighting it, but it will be expensive. If you do the vacuum thing, just watch it for half a day or even a couple of hours. I doubt you'll have a problem if you make it right.

There are lots of places to get them online (us included), but if you read the message again, he wanted a local source as he didn't have time for mail order.

I read all of his post. That's why I suggested overnighting :D I've never seen a float valve at a LFS or any hardware store.
