Hey everyone,

I have a 29g tank with a 10g sump and a southdown DSB that is just over a year old. My inhabitants are as follows:

Montipora
Acropora
litophyton
hammer
mushrooms
gsp
xenia

a coral beauty
2 tomato clownfish

I used to have a yellow tang (please go easy on me) which died shortly after I switched from CC to the DSB. He literally just laid down in the sand and died after a few days. Anyway, I want another fish but not as big as a tang. I am truly enjoying the light bioload but I feel like I can handle another fish. I really miss the yellow in my tank. Any suggestions?

Eric

IMHO, you have enough fish. (sorry) :(

Three fish in a 29 Gallon is plenty. If the two tomato clowns get along with each other, I would just consider myself lucky and go with it.

No tang would be happy in a 29.

I agree with Feva. You could get away with another (small) fish or two, but the advantages of the lighter bioload are worth exercising a little self-discipline IMO. Your corals will appreciate it as well as the existing fish.

I wouldn't add any more fish, in fact IMO the two clowns are enough for a 29.

Agree with SPC. I don't know much about the coral beauty, but I think it should really have a bigger tank, shouldn't it? I think it probably swims back and forth wearing its nose out on the glass.

A clown goby pair or
fire fish or
royal gramma or
six line wrasse
neon goby or
one small shrimp goby with pistol shrimp
There is a large number of small fish that you can add one or two.
I would consider change the tomato pair to a smaller pair of clown fish (ocellaris, percula, or pink skunk)

Lemon peel is a relatively large angel, maybe too large for a 29 g tank. Mimic tang is definately too large for a 29 g tank.

I am truly enjoying the light bioload but I feel like I can handle another fish.

Then continue to enjoy it! :D Give your remaining fish room to grow as well as your corals, especially if your not planning a tank upgrade in the near future.

I have a coral beauty, two mated perculas, and three green chromis in my 37 gallon which is the same footprint as your 29 but taller.

I also wanted some yellow in my tank but didnt want to overtax the bioload any more than I already had.

my solution was a dottyback. Its a small fish the one I have has a bright yellow stripe down its back which fades to blue and then silver. It may be called a frimandi's dotty but Im not sure.

Its not the most common dotty around here so I had to order it to get this color scheme but since it was the last fish for this tank I didnt mind the price too much.

I feed this tank less now than before as this dotty and most of my other fish seem content eating pods for the occassional meal

Are gobies compatible with a DSB? Aren't they diggers?

Give your remaining fish room to grow as well as your corals, especially if your not planning a tank upgrade in the near future.

Maybe I'm trying to give myself a reason to upgrade.
