Just moved a used 75 gal reef today. I tried to save his DSB (it looked REALLY good) but it was just too heavy and I didn't want to crack the tank, so we scooped out most of it into a bucket with some water and added it back to the tank in the new location. Also added 10 gal of tank water and a powerhead. The water smells pretty bad like hydrogen sulfide. Should I just get all new sand and start over again or let it cycle for a couple weeks to a month...???

The layers are already all mixed. Mostlikely, the denitrification layer is lost. Even though, the sand bed and the detrivores living in it are still good. Give is a good rinse to rid most of the detritus trapped in it. Let is settle and recycle. Wait for a couple of weeks until the nitrite is no longer detectable.
