Most folks here believe Mark Weiss products are worthless and I agree. Spend your money on something else or just keep it in your pocket IMHO.

Yes I agree, have used many of his doctor good products, Boy what I could have done with the money instead! I believe if he used his urine in the bottles it would be better than what is in them as a product.

Isn't it funny how Coral Vital smells like apple juice? Makes ya wonder, huh? I know him, and Marc comes across as quite the crackpot, probably too much N2 in his blood system. Some people swear by his stuff, some swear at it. Personally, I feel it's just more chemicals to put in the tank, so I stay clear.

At least you could cycle a tank with Mark Weiss Urine-Vital.

Black powder did nothing but SMELL STINKY. Kinda Like my 9 mo. old's Diper genie...matter of fact, almost exactly like it.

Interesting.

I have it on a reasonably reliable authority that "Black Powder" is actually blood meal. Dried cow blood. Available at any garden center for a lot less money - not that it has any business in a reef tank.

I used to work with blood meal nitrogen analysis equipment at a beefpacking lab, never thought Id hear of that stuff showing up in a reef aquarium. it would yield usable N and C after breakdown, but that is in addition to the ample amounts generated in aquariums housing fish requiring constant food input. If it were the kind we used, it would be mainly nitrogen and carbon with little protein/amino value due to the denaturing process at the plant. But hey, its good for roses...

Matt its neat that you heard that.
have some people at a LFS that swear by reef vital dna. The only reason I havent tried it is because its 30 dollars for a small amount. do you add any wide spectrum supplements to the giant linked system at your store?

Over a year ago, I was curious about the Reef Vital DNA. So I bought some and then read that many people on this forum said it was a hoax. So, my curiousity led me into a simple tast tesing analysis. I posted the result on this forum, I'm sure someone with the time could dig up the info.

Anyhow, I narrowed down the ingredients to a few simple products. Prune Juice (has great oxidants), apple juice, lemon juice, and a few other items I cant remember. I do recall that I could not reproduce the fizzyness or low pH of 3.5 or so. A couple months ago I was reading a thread about the benefits of adding hydrogen peroxide to the aqaurium in small doses. Bingo! Although I have no time to reinvestigate this, I am quite sure that this was the missing ingrediant that I could not find.

BTW, for all those folks who were envious of my pallette, I just want to let you know that I have not croaked :P It tastes pretty good too. I still use the stuff periodically, but I can't say it has done anything significant.
Cheers,
Scott

Kappang Vital, and RO-Vital have quite a name in the freshwater community. Apparently they work very well, same with the black water extract. I think though that initially this is what gave him any credability when it came to marketing his reef suppliments, but as of yet im not impressed with any of them, i have never heard a good report, and actually my expirience from the boards with these products has been rather troubled.

More juice anyone
