This past weekend I purchased so puling Xenia for my tank. It seemed healthy at first but overnight it became limp and pulsed very little. what could be causing this problem. my ph is 8.3 the water temp is 80 f and they are housed under a 400 watt MH w/ 2 antinic 40 watt fls. there are no corals near the xenia nor has any creature been brothering to colony. I' m stumped. Can anyone help me out here? :?

your alkalinity could be too low, I use B-Ionic, and mine look great...also Iodine helps..I add Kent Lugols solution weekly...

It also could just be stressed from the move. That is quite normal for Xenia. It may be pumping madly later this week.

Was it under light that powerful in the LFS?

It may be adjusting to the new sunshine.

They may respond to nitrite or ammonia, I don't know. Mine never seem to care about anything more than nutrient levels. They are usually much happier when my tank's nutrient levels are up a little. And they look better when the nitrate is not quite zero. (IE: not high, but barely shows on the salifert low scale) They aparently do use nitrate absorbtion somehow. And they don't seem to care much about flow as long as there is at least a kind of medium flow. Mine won't pulse in a fast flow, but they still don't shrivel or fall limp. Course I don't watch mine that closely. I just use them for nutrient export. I could be totally wrong, who knows.
