Yellow leather self propagation?

I have a fairly large yellow leather that I have had for about 3 years and is now around 9" wide and 16" long. It appears to be making hundreds of little baby leather corals on it's underside and some appear to be starting to detach from the parent coral. (See the very bottom right of the pic) I think I could just take a scisors and snip most of these off without even bothering the parent coral. Some are just being held on by a thread. Any ideas on this? Suggestions?

A friend of mine has the same leather, a big one, he got a new razor and made a clean cut at the base of the smaller polyp and gave me a frag with no ill effects to the main leather, good luck.

why not wait abit and see how it happens?then you can help teach us all about how it goes,nature's style.pics will be expected, of course :wink:

though with that many buds, i don't think it would hurt to try and cut a few off, and place on some rubble pieces.looks like you'll end up w/a couple of hundred frags,no?

I've clipped a few buds like that. In my experience, smaller ones didn't do so well once they were cut off, but that was not a very highly lit tank so they might not have been getting enough nutrition one way or another. Larger buds attached and grew well.

The mother coral never suffered any ill effects. I would start with one or two and see what happens, but I'd be surprised if anything went wrong cutting off a couple small nips from a leather that size.
