Pump questions AmpMaster Vs. Iwaki

Well my Quiet One went out one and I sent it back for warranty. So I borrowed a MAK 4 from a friend and am using it for skimmer and return. I was using quiet one retrun and a Sen 900 for skimmer(Bullet-1). Anyway I like the MAK 4 it's doing a great job. I've noticed a 2-3 degree drop in water temp too!! . The only problem is that is's a bit loud. I was wondering if anybody is usking the Iwaki 55RLT or the AmpMaster 2100. I know that the AmpMaster is quiet but does it add heat? What about the Iwaki? Thanks for your opinions...

P.S. 75 gal AG reef ready tank 20 gal sump

Also I was concerned with the head pressure of the Dolphin. I read that it doesn't do well under back pressure applications (i.e. Bullet-1 skimmer)

I used to have the Iwaki 55rlt, but it was a bit too loud for me. I keep my tank in my living room so I wanted it silent. I switched to an Ampmaster3000. I love the pump. It is completely silent and adds NO heat to the water. The only thing is that these pumps do not handle pressure too well so if you plan on reducing the piping that it runs through(since I think it comes with 1 1/2" in and out) you should plan on buying a pump with a much higher flow rate than you really need. I have min reduced to a 1" manifold then split- (1) 3/4" that goes through my chiller and then back to the return on the tank. The other 3/4" line goes through my UV and then back into sump. The flow coming out of my return really isn't that high. Just keep that in mind. Good Luck.

I just bought an AmpMaster 3000 and it's sitting on the floor right next to me...Whoa! This sucker is big! So far mines been silent too (probably because it's in it's box and not plugged in :wink: ) I can't wait for my 180 to be delivered on the 26th so I can start the plumbing! I found only good reviews on the AmpMaster and that is why I choose it.

How big shoul I get then? like a said before I have a Mak4 right now running my Bullet-1 and Return. it's flow rate is ~1100gph 2.5ft to skimmer and about 4ft return. I was looking at the AmpMaster 2100. Do you think that would be big enogh. Oh and i'll be going into 1' fitting that's Y'ed to 3/4 return and 1' skimmer.

I am thinking of going through a 1" pipe for the intake, but could go 1 1/2" for the output. My tank was drilled 1" and that is what I was going to use for the input of the closed loop. Do you guys think this will cause problems? Should I go buy a glass hole drilling bit and drill the sucker to 1 1/2"? I know when I have put strain on my other pumps they tend to make a little noise. Will this be the case for the AmpMaster 3000 also?
