Crap, some of those are huge.

Here in central Canada, land of the igloo. My last bill was $120 total. I have a 225, with a pair of Mak 4s, 8 powerheads and 1200watts of light.

However I do heat the house with wood in the winter.

I'd sure like to know what you guys are paying for kW/hour. I know in Ohio we're paying just shy of $0.05/kW. Many of you guys have touted of $200+ bills for your tanks. That's insane. Hell, even roughing it, I could run the following for that money here:

4 x 400w mH (10hrs/day) - 480kW/month - $24
2 x 160w VHO for 10 hrs (12hrs/day) - 115kW/month - $ 6
4 x 1hp (746w) pump for circulation - 2148kW/month - $107
1 x 2hp chiller (1500w) at 24hr/day - 1080kw/month - $54

Even if I pay twice the money per kW, I still can run a hell of a lot. A 1hp pump can move some serious water, let alone 4 of them. On top of that, the chiller doesn't actually run 24hrs/day and there is an efficiency factor to account for in the lighting.

i think i'm paying something like 6.34 cents/kwh. my bill comes out to be something like 50 bucks or so. i didn't really notice a difference when i got the tank because i started being more power concious and turning off other stuff i wasn't using. it offset the tank cost and i'm basically breaking even.

On Long Island,NY we pay 14-15 cents a KWH. Plus a fee for increased fuel costs. I pay 150-165 a month on balanced billing. I only use 440w icecap, Berlin Turbo, CPR aquafuge, mini might light, and three pumps for circulation.

Mine is usually around $50 to $65 per month. A high summer bill was $85 running A/C.

I only have a 55 gal with 231 watts of light, couple powerheads, mag 5 pump and about 250 watts of heaters.

4 room apartment w/gas heat, hot water, stove.

I pay 12 cents per KWH.

WOW! I live in So Cal. Luckily in the land of DWP and my electricty bill is about $325 for two months. 2/3rd of that is my tank. Not bad once I see yours.

You guys should try insulating the pipes etc. since most of the time the tank is warmer than we keep our houses.

My Water bill is 280 - But I have large yards front and back with green grass year round, and complete flower beds. So I know that the tanks aren't consuming much of the 1100 gallons a day that DWP claims I use in water.

Up here in Northern Cali electricityhas gone up and up and up. We have a 120g reef, 2 pumps, 1240w of MH/VHO
40g reef, two small pumps, 175w MH
7g nano, not much
We have a rather small two bedroom house, 900 sq. ft.

We pay $240-$275 a month in winter and $200-$250 in the summer. It is impossible to tell what is happening on our bill. The prices change all the time, the surcharges are crazy. We use more than the 310 Kwh/month base, moore like 1100-1300kwh and get charged 100%-300% more for the over usage. It totally sucks. Our bill went from $235 to $275 from October to November and we can't figure out why. Funny thing is we are using less electricity than last year at the same time and our bill is easily $50-$75 more. I save all the bills just to depress myself from time to time when I am just to happy :lol:

The energy problems in California will only get worse and then finding out Enron was selling off our energy to the highest bidders in other states while we were under rolling outages has been a hard pill to swallow. I was coming home from work during those outages to stir my tank. They are all a bunch of crooks. Our Govenor is not anything nice either, what a dork, he panicks and signs off on the deal we are now all getting gouged by.

I hear you... But in all truth and honesty do you really believe any politicians out there are for the people?????? I think not. My bill would be the same right now if someone else was in there. The problem is much larger than him...and its called SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS. They run our state and our country, not the politicians. Just my lame 2 cents worth :lol: .

I did go out and buy all those cool lightbulbs that use less energy and I have tried to conserve in many ways, even cut down my photo period on my tanks from 10hrs to 8 hrs. I need to do my little part to save electricity.

Did not cost me any thing to run my 75gal reef with two 400w mh. I hook up a cord to my neighbor house for years and my neighbor didn't know it. They never home anyway. I just barry the cord in the ground and run it to their out-door plug. It is good when you have free energy. :lol: :lol: :lol: Do you actually believe that ????? :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll:

I also got rid of ever incandescant bulbs and put in Flours. They are great. I dod it for about $100. and have had them for 'bout a year with no replacement. I figure the money I save from that runs my tank. I also have good cross ventilation. keeps the tank at 77degrees.

Hey Matt, isn't your technique the same as that used by smart hydroponic dope growers who realized that they were being caught because the DEA was monitoring electrical bills? A guy I know was raided by the cops because his electical bill all of a sudden went sky high. It turns out that his next door neighbour was growing pot and using high power halides which were being powered by a buried electrical line connected to his house.
