Wow.. coral safe maybe.. but hell on shrimp/crabs/snails/tankmates. I can't think of any thallasoma that makes a good reef resident, and this is one of the worst. Yours must be an oddball heh.

Must be - he's been very docile since the day I got him. Doesn't bother a soul in the tank - including a cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp. He also has quite the personality and is incredibly inquisitive - always swimming around my hand if it's in the tank for any reason, following the cleaning magnet, laying on the sand or a rock and following me with his little beady eyeballs, etc. He's also a wanton pig. :D

I had pretty good luck with a Bluehead Thalassoma for about two years - I never noticed it pick on any of the snails, hermits, or emerald crabs. However, I did notice that peppermint shrimp disapeared in short order (within a couple of weeks). I never experimented with smaller shrimp after noticing that. It did leave the larger cleaner shrimp alone, even during molting. I thought the trade-off in not being able to keep smaller shrimp was worth it since the wrasse was hands-down the most interesting fish in the tank.

Best regards,

Ken
