Nasa won't confirm its gone, yet several contrails seen when there should've only been the one. God or whomever help them all.

May the families, loved ones and friends of the victims be provided with the strength to deal with this horrible tragedy.

my sincerest condolences to all those involved in this disaster.

There has apparently been speculation that there is a slim chance some of the astronauts may have been able to deploy parachutes. let's all cross our fingers.

What is there to say? I am heartbroken, since we watch NASA's broadcasts every day that the shuttle is up I'd grown very familiar with those aboard. Almost as though I knew them, following closely the experiments students from Japan, Germany, Israel, and America had aboard.

We can pray, it doesn't make it any less heartbreaking. I don't know how many of you watched the Challenger disaster, but I did, and I still remember so clearly that day.

I am praying that they didn't know what was happening. I am praying that they did not suffer. Now I pray for their families and friends.

I also watched the Challenger disaster, and this brings back those same feelings, very very sad
we have the comfort of knowing they are being held in the arms of god now......

I think it is important to remember (even though it now seems to be taken for granted) just how much the space program has benefitted all of mankind.

Many of the technologies, medicines and just plain old creature comforts that we all enjoy have their roots in space exploration.

For this reason anyone that is willing to strap themselves into a spacecraft that is sitting on millions of gallons of high explosive fuel for the benefit of mankind should be viewed as a hero. It hurts me to believe that there will be people in this world that will rejoice on such a sad day!

God bless those lost and their families. They are truly not just American heros but heros of all of mankind.

Yes, I still remember the 1986 explosion. I was in 12 grade History when we heard the news.

My sympathies go out to alll the families of the 7 crew members.

A sad day in History :(

This will go down as one of those days that you remember what you were doing when you heard the news. God bless all the astronauts and their families.

Ahh, the wonders of humanity..... As of 7:45 this morning, there were 1976 auctions on ebay for items with "shuttle" "columbia" in the title. Only 57 of them were up before yesterday morning's news. Some of them claim to be donating the profits to charity. Others decrying the profiteers, and suggesting you buy items such as the Columbia DVD elsewhere have been bid up to over $15k.

My mom was right - it'd be a much nicer world if there weren't any people in it.
