Here is an easy one, I Hope

I have a 135g coral tank at the store that is purely for disply/sale. It has 300lbs LR. a 75 gallon sump sectioned off with 60lbs of live sand for a 4" thick sand bed. temp is a constant 77. I dose Bionic Daily and my PH/Alk and calcium test within prefered range. But I test for DKH and i get a reading of 7.

RO/DI water is used for salt and all evap mixes.

I evaporate about 1/2 gallon per day. I dose a diluted kalk over a 3 day period. there are 3 fsh in the tank I yellow tang, a Purple tang, and a lawnmower blenny. that is it. any ideas. I used a salifert test kit.

How do I get the dKH reading to 10.... or is it a flase reading.

all the corals are healthy and comming out. no dieoff

any help would be great.

I dose the kalk to maintain a constant level of Ca. I still have to top off water every day. I dont want to nuke my tank.

I used Kalk when I was ew to the hobby and wrecked everything. So now I stay away from it.
If you guys want to help retrain me onthe kalk additions I am welcome to suggestions.

thanks

first off, if your alkalinity is fine then your dH would be fine considering they're the same thing. the only difference between dH and alkalinity is the conversion factor. dH × 17.9 = ppm to convert your dH to alk; ppm × 0.056 = dH to convert you alk reading to dH. Note: ppm is the same as mg/L. if your alkalinity test is giving you a positive reading and your dKH test is giving you a poor reading then one or both are wrong. if you find that your hardness is actually low then you should use baking soda to raise it. 1 teaspoon of baking soda will raise the alkalinity in 50 gallons by ~0.4 meq/L (~1 dKH). if you don't feel like using baking soda then use a buffer that they make specifically for raising hardness. bionic is supposed to do this for you. i've never used the stuff so i don't know too much about it. i do know, however, that one of the bionic bottles is used to raise hardness. try reading the back of the bottle and seeing what it says to do in order to raise hardness. if that doesn't work then i would use a different buffer. you may even try reading this:

hope this is what you were looking for.

I went and forked out some clams for a new test kit. my dKH reads at 10. I had a bad test kit. I was pretty sure that harness and Alk were the same. I had a lapse of intel' there.

thanks for the reply
