Going to St. Thomas, any advice

next week i am taking a vacation in st. thomas (us virgin islands). i have never been there and was wondering the following:

1) can i collect anything worthwhile
2) can i buy anything worthwhile

or if anybody has any good suggestions ...of course i will snorkel .....

Bring extra money for GOLD (necklaces bracelets rings). I bought my wife a 2 carat diamond tennis braclet and a gold chain for myself(very heavy) for 500.00. Just don't buy the first thing you see because the next store you go into it will be cheaper. The entire area is gift shops and jewelry stores.
