Ok, so I have a birthday coming up in a few weeks, and I would like to ask for a book on reefs.
My backround is - I have the set up for my 55gal reef all planned out. In a few weeks I will begin purchasing all my equipment. I have been on this board for over a year now, so I have done a bunch of research and what not. I am looking for a book, or set of books, that I should ask for that will help me understand the requirements of different lps, anemones and other coral creatures. I don't need a book on how to set up a fish tank, I want a book that will help me learn more about specific requirements of the things I put in the reef. There are a million books out there, and I can see from web sites that people recommend about ten books each; I am asking what should my first book be. I am kinda relying you guys out there for suggestions; so don't recommend a book that tells me what an undergravel filter is!

I agree with Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals, 2001.

I have found it to be the best book book in my Coral library - with good, specific information concerning individual species and their captive care.

I'll be the third one to say I agree with Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals. Great book everyone witha reef tank should have it. I got mine from Amazon so look for some coupons and you can save a few more bucks too.

Dave,

If I had a birthday coming and someone else was going to buy the present I would defintely ask for the currently 4-volume in English The Modern Coral Aquarium by Fossa & Nilsen. Second choice would be The Reef Aquarium Volume I & II by Delbeek & Sprung. Aquarium Corals by Eric Hugo Borneman would come in third. All three are good and each deserves in place in the serious reef aquarist library. Go to a lfs and look before you leap. Forget Amazon and support the good local fish stores in your area if you can find them.
