I have a prism skimmer on a 40 gal. setup. I've recently noticed a film starting to develop on the surface, if I ajust my suction cup to suck up the film the skimmer looses suction. Any insight into this would be helpful.
keep your skimmer settings to where the skimmer works and throw in a Rio 100 or something simular near the surface of the water to aggitate the surface and break up the film collecting.

The film you are seeing is probably accumulated oils and dirt. By aggitating the surface, you should help to keep that film in suspension (instead of on top of your water), and it will over time get cleaned out by the skimmer.
