What RO devise to use in Chicago?

Hey Reefers,

I was at the Living Sea (NW Chicago burbs...) and they suggested that I purchase the Kent Marine Bare Bones RO unit, which produces 24 gpd for $149. I have priced it out and it seems somewhat resonable, yet i have no idea if this is the best unit to use quality wise, also i don't know if this is the best unit to use for Lake Michigan Water. The GPD is in the range i am looking for.
I am looking for info on what to specificly look for in a RO unit and info on other units if you suggest something else.

I agree with JDM. Aquatic Reef Systems helped with an upgrade of my Kent Maxxium RO/DI unit. They were very helpful in customizing my set-up for my needs.

you guys were right, i had emailed the company with some RO unit questions and they really had their act together. Thanks!
I have yet to use their product, but i sure can tell everybody that their cheapest RO device is only $80 and puts out 50 gpd! That is half the price and twice the GPD of the Kent "Bare Bones!"

Less of a dent to my pocket, thanks to Reefs.org!

I have the Kent RO/DI maxima. It is a great unit and I think you will be happy with the RO unit. You may not get 24 gpd, though, depending on your water pressure but depending on your needs you may not need that much water anyway.

The upgrades I was referring to was an upgrade of the memberane to a 100gpd unit and the additiion of drinking water kit with an extra large bladder tank.

The membrane is a cylinder of material that looks like a paper towel roll, although not as large in diameter. All you do is take out the old membrane and put in a new one. If I were you, I would stick with the 24gpd unit for now if you think that this is enough. You can always change the membrane later.

Yes. You may also have to change the flow restrictor valve (a small fitting that goes inside the drain line to create back-pressure inside the unit). Aquatic Reef Systems can tell you exactly what to do and how to make the change.
