I have a ton of that "sargasso" looking weed growing off the LR- foxface doesn't touch it; I asume an urchin will....anything else?

Good luck, I tried everything, emerald crabs, tangs, manual harvest, everthing- it always came back! I eventually had to take the rock out and scub off the plants. When you pinch off the macro, if even the smallest amount of its hold-fast remains, it will continue to grow...

May the force be with you.

IME, it grows very well for the first 6 month-1 year, then doesn't grow anymore (something to do with the amount of nutrients in a new tank, I suspect). Nasos will eat it, but most other fish don't like it (too tough). I'd just manually havest it for a while..Just don't expect it to always grow back, it won't unless your nutrients get way outta hand.

It looks like a sargassum anglerfish without the fish

Heh, Dan, i think they call your algae sargassum. :?

Naso's should do it, but then they also get over a foot and a half long, which could pose a problem. If it were my problem, i'd try to do mostly manual removal. That way you're getting all the crap that the stuff is using to grow out of the system, instead of reintroduced in the form of fish or urchin waste. A diadema urchin may work once the stuff is really cropped down (probably by you), they can handle some of the tougher macro. For now, i'd enjoy the added nutrient export.

Another thought, you could dedicate a refugium connected to your main for growing this stuff since it grows so well. If you can get it going good in the 'fuge, then it may not be so much of a problem in the main. HTH

plastic tweezers, and pull every strand out by the base. Rock it bakc and forth untill i pulls off the rock.

I pulled out a half gallon container of sargassum from my tank this way. I only get one or two strands now, and i like them as decoration/ nutrient export

Well, it does seem to pull out pretty easily- but I got a couple of little emerald crabs and they started right in munching on it. - Dan

I thought the sargassum was great for nutrient export for the first six months after it came in on some live rock. Then it spread everywhere. Every snail even had several starts of the stuff growing on their shells. After two years it has died out in my main tank but still remains in a nano. Neat macro but can spread explosively - wouldn't want it in my sump either.
