Anyone had good results with "Kick-Ick" by Ruby Reef? Might need to treat my tank due to signs of white spots. The LFS recommended it.

Thanks!!

I wouldn't buy it. I would try garlic added to your food instead. Also look into why the ick became present. A new fish? Some new stress? What caused it?

Tell us more about your tank, livestock, water parameters, etc.

Welcome to the board!

I am with Louey; I treated ich three times in my 180g reef by soaking flake food in garlic concentrate that you can get from any health store. keep doing it for a week after all ich disappears. I am not sure of one week or even longer.....

There is no evidence that Kick Ich works - it is all anecdotal. The same number of people posts positive results using the product as not using it.

Try to figgre out what is causing the problem and fix it. If the ich is bad you may want to q tank the fish and treat with hyposalinity or copper.

Good luck

This question comes from a PB tang that started acting funny. I have noticed a few bumps on its skin and trying to scrape itself on the rocks.

Tank is 58G show. Wet/Dry, CPR back pack skimmer, U/V filter, 1 96w blue and 1 96W 10,000k C/F lights. About 50# live rock, 1 maroon clown (no conflict with the PBT), 4 misc corals.

The PBT has been in the tank for about 4 months. Eating from day one. Ate like a champ today. Should keep the vampires away today with the garlic dose.

Thanks for the input. The more the better!!

Regards,
RMS

Oh boy, now you are going to hear from the "Tang Police" regarding the insuitability of PBs in the home aquarium! Seriously, i would also skip the Kick Ick and just use the garlic. The Ick will likely go away on its own if your tank parameters are otherwise healthy.

IMO a 58 is fine for a small tang as long as there arnt too many other fish as well. When it gets big it will need a larger tank though. With the only other fish being the maroon clown it should be ok. Maroon clowns can get very territorial as they grow though.

I tried Kick Ich twice, the first time the ick was bad and the Kick Ich worked very well. The second time I tried it it did not work at all, I saw no difference after using. So IME it was 50/50. Any other time since Ive seen a fish with Ich I feed heavily usually twice daily with food soaked in Garlic, like garlic extreme from Kent Marine, and also soaked with selcon. I reduce any other stressors I can see and it almost always clears up. Last time I got a new fish, a foxface, it freaked everytime it saw me. Developed ick right after arrival, I realized all the action in the living room stressed him so I covored the tank in trash bags for a week. Now he is nice and healthy, and the trash bags are gone.

Maybe Im crazy but IMO if you reduce all the stressors you can it really helps increase the chance for recovery. HTH

I tried Kick Ick in my quaratine tank on a new arrival about a year ago just to see if it worked. It had zero effect on the ich.

Is the PB also getting skinny? Often they are caught with posion which, as I understand it, allows them to eat but wrecks their digestive system so they don't actually get any nutrition. They can last for months then fade away suddenly.

Good luck.

As far as eating, I should call her Ms. Piggy. When someone sits next to the tank, she goes straight to the surface and waits to be fed.

Been feeding garlic extream soaked food for 3 days. Ick appears to be reduced a little.

Hopfully a week or so should clear things up.

Thanks for all the input.
