My Vario L180 dosing pump just arrived from Marine Depot today, and I am confused and disappointed at this unit.

The advertising says "extremely quiet”, but this pump is anything but. I have no reference to other brands, but when I plugged this in it was much louder than I expected.

But another problem has been discovered that has me re-packing it and requesting an RMA…..this unit is advertised as “variable speed” but my unit runs at full speed regardless of the position of the speed adjustment screw. Has anyone else run into this with this pump?

I am considering just returning the pump as it is obviously not what it is advertised to be, and going with a different brand. Has anyone tried the Liter Meter 3 yet?

Thanks for any input…

Dave

The litermeter's are supposed to be pretty good peristaltic pumps but I have no first-hand experience with them. I ended up going with a reef-filler type pump (diaphram pump) and am extremely happy with it. It only makes a noise when the diaphram engages: click, click, click, ... Personally it's really not all that annoying but then again I have it in my basement feeding my replacement water into my tank on a nightly basis so... ;)

The vario is noisy at high speeds, but once you slow it down it is very quiet. It sounds like yours is having some kind of problem in that you cannot slow it down, so it might be worth sending back. I highly recommend them overall, however. I use two of them.

Dosing pump in general are loud. Even the quietest one (Litermeter, from my research) still makes some noise. I don't have any experience with the Vario so I can't say much about them.

If you're not happy with the pump you have I would return it and buy a Litermeter. I have a Litermeter and am very happy with it. It is quiet enough that it doesn't bother me when it comes on (every few minutes or so). If it's in your stand you won't even hear it.

It has a digital readout to change the amount of fluid it doses.
