I just inherited two ballasts. I really want to figure out how to get these
ballasts to work because they were free (my favorite kind of ballast).

Hereis the problem:

The first one is a magnetic VHO ballast made by Advance. It's rated for 2
48" T12's or a single 96 or 72 inch lamp. I can not fit anything above 45
inches in my canopy. I know...I didn't design the thing. Is there any way
to get 36" lamps to run on this one?

The second ballast is a NO magnetic Magnetek. Again, it's rated for 2 T12
48" bulbs. Is there any way to get it to run 36" bulbs?

Please have good news!

Thanks,

Ron

I have found that most ballast run smaller bulbs no problem.
The rating on there is for maxium length/wattage of bulbs that the ubit will run.

I have a ballast that is rated for (4) 48" bulbs or a max of 192".
It's currently running (4) 36" bulbs.

yes the rating on the ballast is normally rated up to what it will handle.
you usually only need concern yourself with total length and total wattage of lamps.
for example a ballast rated for two 48" lamps will fire four @24" or two 36",will probably fire 3 @36", depending on combined wattage of lamps
