I just bought my remora skimmer and it seems to be working well.. i have a maxi 1200 power head with it..

Here is the questions I have, please tell me if this is normal or not..

1. I see a few bubbles under my maxi powerhead and in other places of the tank, but it has not been a week yet since i set up my skimmer. will this go away?
2. Should I adjust the setting on the skimmer? the place where the waste is kept keeps filling up very fast, usually full with dirty liquid in less then 3 days.
3. Removing the waste canister/container is becoming more difficult, it feels like its harder to remove, do i need to turn pump off to remove the canister with waste in it?

I had a Remora

1) bubble by the connection of the pump and skimmer are normal.. at least for me they were. I also noticed a film would form on the top of the water.

2) if your waste isn't real dark or foam is "wet" then yes adjust. did you wash your container in hot water? It can warp it and make it not fit the way it was..

Hope this helps..

Thank you for your reply.. My foam is pretty foamy, although the waste is not that dark although its not clean either.. I did not wash it in warm water before using it, just set it up right away. hmm

Maybe. My friend has a Remora w/Maxijet 1200 that's been running for about 7-8 months now with a bubble box and still having bubble problems. :(

The skimmate should be dark. If it's not, move the collection cup higher.

This seems to be due to warping (which can apparently occur at normal operating temperatures) - my friend has had the same problem and also did not wash the cup in hot water. I sanded the edges of the collection cup down which seemed to help. Run the cup under cold water after you wash it - that helps in getting it back in (won't help with getting it out though). My friend even went as far as getting another collection cup from AquaC - same problems after a few days...

Wolfman Thanks alot for all your information! One more question and ill let the subject rest :D

You said "The skimmate should be dark. If it's not, move the collection cup higher."

What do you consider dark? my waste water is just dirty light brownish/yellowish water... its not clear water so is this what would be dark?

I would try moving the collection cup higher (sounds like you're drawing a very wet skimmate right now which can alter your salinity over time). You should be able to get a "dark tea" looking skimmate. You won't have to empty the collection cup as frequently if it is set higher.

Its the Remora, not the pro...

AquaC Remora HOT Skimmer w/pump

P.S. I moved the collection cup higher and it works better now less watery froth.

I got a Remora Skimmer few months back.

Remember the instructions said it will take a few weeks for the Skimmer to get broke into now.
Yes, you'll have that Bio film at the top of your tank. Thats normal. Just position a powerhead to towards the top of the tank and it'll help stir things up more to keep it under control.

Yeah..don't worry about it filling up with water more in the colection cup than normal for a few weeks. Once the Skimmer is broke in..It'll get the thick goot.

Also..in the intructions. Its says to tighten that screw down inside there just enough for a very slight trickle of water comes from the screw.

Not to worry..Just going thru the beck in peroid.
