Linkia Respawning?

Yesterday my Blue Linkia looked like something tore into one of its leg. Later that night its leg came completely off. This morning I woke to the rest of the Linkia in two halfs with two legs each and both halfs are alive and moving around. There are some very mild guts and white tissue hanging out, but none of my fish or critters seem to be bothering it. I heard they dont respawn in a home aquarium. Is this just another method of eventual death? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

did you acclimate him real slow with a drip?

are there any powerheads that he may have been sucked onto (this happened to one of mine)?
