Hi All,

I just set up my tank. Its run by an Ampmaster 3k and its running my skimmer, a cycliner (for media like carbon) and the return. Its inlet is 2 1"ers and then the outlet is 1 1/2" which splits three ways (1", 1" and 3/4") . I have the return and cyclinder slighlty throttled back with a ball valve and the skimmer is wide open. I thought these were supposed to be cool. I can't put my finger on the housing for more than a few seconds becuase its so hot.

Any thoughts/advice would be really appreicated!

That is fine, and technically it does run cool. Its remote "wet" housing is seperated from the main motor structure allowing it to run cool and to keep heat transfer to a minimum.

The Dolphin pumps purportedly don't transfer much heat directly to the water. However, if you don't remove the heat for the area around the pump, the heat can end up being transfered to the water anyways (via the sump, for example). I had this problem with my new set-up where I have 2 Dolphin pumps and 2 Iwaki pumps all enclosed within the stand beneath my tank. My solution (I am still working out the bugs) was to install a through-the-wall fan in the wall directly behind the open back of my stand so as to draw air through the stand and push it into the adjoining room.
