I have recently attained Sand Polyps and Button Green Poylps from a friend who broke down his reef. The polyps were completely closed when obtained-apparently due to extended exposure to nitrates in the area of 60. It has been a week since they were placed in my tank of ideal water parameters but the polyps have never opened. They look firm with no signs of decay. Do you believe they will recover and reopen?

I am not familier with sand polyps, at least by that name, but I would be surprised if the green buttons didn't do well for you. I would also be surprised if a nitrate reading of 60 would harm them. They tend to be happier in low light or even shade IME.

They should be fine, polyps like that should enjoy elevated nitrate levels. They're probably just not open because they are still acclimating to your tank. You're doing good, keep looking out for mushy or infected areas, if you don't see any, they should pop open in no time.
