Hi,
I'm new here and at saltwater aquariums. I have been doing freshwater for a while but I thought saltwater would be more interesting so I started saltwater. Right now I have began cycling my 29 gallon saltwater aquarium. I am going to start with fish only for about a year and then when I earn more money i'm going to start a nano-reef in my 29. Okay, enough about me, my real question is that I have a lot of room but little material to use for hiding places. I already have some live rock and lace rock but not enough of it. I would put in more lace rock in but lace rock runs for a high price here in cincinnati and I am only 14years old (I have no source of income ecept birthday money and christmas money). So are there any subsitutes for lace rock I could use? Thanks
John

might i suggest you purchase good quality live rock instead of 'lace' rock?
even if it's more expensive, and takes you longer, you'll still get there, and you'll already have learned the first important lesson of saltwater, in general, and reefing, in particular:patience pays off!

plus-there are lots of small tank compatible fish that aren't that needy of hiding spots-and your fish will find more than you realize are already there!
luck :)

-if you can't afford live rock-any of the white limestone, or coral based rock will do fine-just watch out for colors other than the limestone, like reds or blueish streaks-these can be undesirable minerals you don't want in a saltwater tank.the dead rock will eventually get colonized by your existing live rock, well in time for your foray into reefing. :)

Don't sit around and wait for birthday and Xmas money. Go out and cut grass during the summer and shovel snow during the winter. Don't wait for life to come to you. Make it happen. :D
