some things that work for red cyano have lessoned this but it is pretty stubborn. Like high current, only r/o water now & clean up crew, poly marine pad. I also use I-Bionic and all my test results are very good. Still cannot get hold of a conch. When I change water I can scrub some off with a heavy brush. I have tried to seed with two nice purple encrusted Fuji live rock. Any ideas on what this is and how to get rid of it?

Looks like red slime. Make sure all your filter sponges are clean and all the food is being eaten. You should also check your nitrates. This stuff will show up when you have an excess of nutrients in the tank.

thanks Aliendomaine but I have no filters, just powerheads, live rock and one polly marine pad that I clean every two weeks per manufacturers instructions. I have measured with no nitrates present , using a Seachem test kit although that may have been the case in the past. I am under the understanding if you remove the problem then the algae should clear up on its own? You have not indicated how to rid myself of this red slime algae.

This stuff will also show up periodically when everything tests good. It is fairly short lived and cyclic. Maintaining pH at the upper end (8.3-ish) and dosing kalk sometimes crashes cyano bacteria.

It's also helpful to siphon off what you can. A great trick is to connect airline tube to rigid airline, so that you can siphon without draining the tank in the process.

I had slime algea bad in my refugium that has relatively low flow. I couldn't really increase the flow due to the drain size (that's another story.) I decided to put my Royal Urchin in there to see if he would eat it. Sure enough, he ate all of it. I have left him in there for the last few months. No more slime algea!

I had same slime problem. I increased the water flow with 2 new powerheads and a janitor clean up crew consisting of snails and mexican hermit crabs. Crabs ate it all. Only took 2 weeks in my 125 g. Good luck!!! :)
