I have a rather specific tank-cycling question. A friend and I picked up 4 Berghia verrucicornis (nudibranches) to help eradicate an aiptasia problem in our reef. In preparation for the Berghia arrival later today, I set up an 8g nano with a new HOB filter (for circulation), freshly made saltwater and no substrate. We figured this setup would allow us to keep track of the Berghias a bit easier. Our plan is to put our infested LR in the nano a piece or two at a time and let the Berghia do their magic.
There would be no other ammonia-producing inhabitants.
The LR is obviously fully cured - and the Berghia can literally be kept in a beaker. Nonetheless, I'm worried about appropriate bacterial colonization in the new tank. To be safe - should I replace the water in the Berghia tank with water from our reef? I could even add a cup or two of LS from the reef and swap filter media with my son's FO nano (since they use the same filter). Am I being needlessly paranoid?? 8O
Thanks for your help!
