I recently got rid of 2 of my three damsels (10 gallon). I left the three stripe. Since then two pepermint shrip have been slaughtered and two hermits. Is this the work of my fish. I think he is also picking at my coral now that there aren't any other fish to keep him in check. I know damsels can be aggressive but are they that evil? Anyone ever have this problem? thanks...

I believe it. I have never had the three stripe damsel, but have heard enough stories to say that is consistant with their character.

Not surprised. I bought a three-striped Damsel about 6 years ago for a 15g tank. Since then, he has been moved to new, larger tanks no less than 5 times, and now resides in a 175g along with 3 morays, 2 triggers, a dog-faced puffer, 2 tangs, and an 8" annularis angle. He has earned the "affectionate" name of "little sh*t".

LOL. I have a 4 striped and my wife has named him "jerk". He is the most beligerant animal I have ever seen. Constantly starting a fight. So now we have Jerk, Fat Bastard (my polka dot cardnal) Sydney (Regal Tang), Dodo (Female Cinnnamon Clown), Cinnamon (small male Cinnamon Clown) and The Krakon (my 32" brisstle star ) and Midgard (my 24" Serpant Star) I still have to name my Cuke and some other critters.

I accidentally dropped a whole 3" long silverside in the tank. He came up and swallowed the whole thing. Only the tail was sticking out. 2 days latter he still had that tail sticking out of his mouth. He wouldn't let it go. He finally digested enough to swallow the whole thing.

the three stripe ranks up there w/the dominoe for aggressiveness.they kill off patches of coral for algae farming and spawning.

it killed my Xenia :x time to get rid of it. How do you think a blue tang(very small) would do in a 10 gallon. Will it get big? the one I want is only about an inch.

I got an inch long blue tang about 1 month ago. He's almost 3" now. I would say 2 3/4" Not sure if it's because I have him in a 80 gal or that I feed him a lot or both. He has an algae clip in the morning and evening (although a small amount of algae is given) and eats the flaks I add for the rest of the tank. I would say feed him much less than I do and he should be ok for a while.

I had one of the little fu*k's, as a starter fish. After the $3 **** started attacking the expensive fish, he had to get transferred. Got a buddy with a bigger tank w/ 2 large groupers and an eel. Little **** lasted almost two weeks

Well I got rid of my little friend today 8) . My coral is so much happier! It was a b*tch getting that fish out of the tank. I had to remove almost all my rock. I'm going fishless for the next week. I've ordered a very small blue surgon, Hope he is a nice guy. I'll keep people informed on how well one of these can do in such a small tank. My friends call my tank a experiment, I'm always trying to push the limits on a budget. I've been fairly sucsessful so far so hopefully my surgon will be happy. Latter

yeah, I live like 2 miles from moby dicks, but I ordered my fish from aquatic discoveries in sterling hights (out by sommerset and oakland mall). They said it should be okay for a few years. After that I plan on having a larger tank. College is a killer financialy right now. If I can't get a larger tank they said they would buy him back. So I have a few options.

Newts, I found Aqua nest's tanks were realy dirty when I was in there. It made me nervous, so I haven't purchased anything from them. Do you have good experiences with them? Where do you go?[/quote]

I have a pair of Three stripes and Two blue devils with a Clown Trigger, Naso Tang, Yellow Tang, and a Marron Clown. both types of damsels are pissy little bastards.....but the messed with the trigger once . they mess with everything else every so often. but they are only about 1", everything else is 3-5". I guess size does matter :D

I cant believe the tang police havent nabbed you yet. Try a search on tangs and youll get more then enough info on what decent reefers think of tangs in a 10 gallon.

I really feel bad for the yellow tang and pray you dont plan to put two tnags together in a 10 gallon. If you ever snorkle or scuba dive take a look a the tangs, then youll understand their requirements much better.

Please research before buying fish. A good fish for a 10 gallon would be a firefish, goby, small species of clowns like a percula.
